Although Elizabeth's name appears on the stone with her husband, Charles Butler Bowen, she is actually buried in Wichita, Kansas which was her home at the time of her death.
Obituary:
Mrs. Elizabeth BOWEN age 88, died Thursday, May 3, at her home in Wichita, Kansas, following a long illness. Mrs. BOWEN was a pioneer of Lipscomb and Ochiltree counties. She had lived in Wichita since 1926. She was the mother of Mrs. H. C. BRILLHART and Paul BOWEN.
Mrs. BOWEN was born Jan. 20, 1864 in Sneedville, Tenn. At the age of two, she came with her parents to Peculiar, Mo., and while still a young girl the family moved on to Barber county, Kansas. In 1886, she was married to Charles B. BOWEN. The young couple, then located in Lipscomb county where they homesteaded near the present site of Darrouzett. Two years later they moved to the BOWEN home ranch, located east of Perryton in Lipscomb County.
The BOWEN family moved to old Ochiltree in 1907 to school their children. Mr. BOWEN, in addition to his cattle ranch business, operated a livery stable and implement business at Ochiltree. He died in 1909. Mrs. BOWEN left the ranch in 1924 and lived in Perryton for a short time before going to Wichita.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Cochran Mortuary Chapel in Wichita with Dr. William Hubbard officiating. Entombment was in the Old Mission Mausoleum.
Pallbearers were Earl KIMMEL, Addison BOWEN, W. L. LANCE, Benson BOWEN, Harvey PLETCHER and H. C. BRILLHART Jr.
Mrs. BOWEN is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Una LANE, Wichita, and Mrs. H. C. BRILLHART, Perryton; two sons, L. C. BOWEN, Chivington, Colo., and William Paul BOWEN, Perryton; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie WILKINS, Medicine Lodge, Kansas, and Mrs. Alex BARTON, Higgins; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. BOWEN was a member of the College Hill Methodist church in Wichita and a charter member of the Perryton Order of the Eastern Star.
