Mr. Jacob Edward Caprielian, a respected and beloved civic leader, departed this life peacefully on July 12, 2012, in his hometown of Crockett, Texas, at the age of 87. Jake was born on November 17, 1924, the only child of Popkin and Eugenia Caprielian, who had immigrated to this country from Armenia. Jake¡¯s father owned and operated two cotton gins in Crockett, the Berry Gin and the LeMay Gin. Jake followed his father in the cotton business, where he would establish Jake Caprielian Cotton. He farmed and ginned cotton, produced grain and wheat, owned a grain elevator, a farm supply store and managed timberland. He operated for many years as a rancher and farmer in Houston County, where he earned a respected reputation in agriculture and business throughout East Texas.
It was wartime when Jake graduated from Crockett High School in 1942 and entered The University of Texas at Austin. College was interrupted when he enlisted as a private in the U. S. Army Air Corps. After two-and-a-half years as a B-24 bombardier, Jake returned to The University of Texas, graduating in 1948 with a BBA degree.
He was the husband of Mary Louise "Jill" Craddock Caprielian. They had no children.
