Funeral services for Leonard Atwood, Sr. age 91 of Hobbs, New Mexico and formerly of Seminole, Texas will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at South Seminole Baptist Church with Pastor Buck Wheat officiating. Burial will follow at Gaines County Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mr. Atwood was born November 17, 1927 in Silsbee, Texas to Lettie (Maxwell) and William Henry Atwood. He married Jeannie Thompson on July 10, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. Leonard served his country in the United States Army from November 1945 to December 1946. He was a Baptist and worked as a lineman for Southwestern Public Service. He enjoyed watching and racing cars and even ran the Plainview, Texas race track; he also enjoyed woodworking, leather working, and taught some leather classes. Leonard Atwood loved family gatherings and church activities. His family was always dear to his heart.

Leonard Atwood, Sr. passed away at Desert Gardens Assisted Living in Hobbs, New Mexico on June 9, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Atwood of Hobbs, New Mexico; two sons, Leonard Atwood, Jr. and wife Cecilia of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Robert Atwood and wife Twyla of Carlsbad, New Mexico; one daughter, Ginger Holland of Lindale, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Jeannine Atwood was born March 6, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas to Elizabeth (Branch) and Herbert Thompson. She married Leonard Atwood, Sr. on July 10, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. She loved her work at church and teaching Sunday school. Jeannine enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She spent many happy hours helping her husband with his woodworking.

Jeannine Atwood passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 at Landmark Desert Garden Nursing Home in Hobbs, New Mexico. In addition to her parents, Jeannine Atwood is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Atwood, Sr. in 2019; two sons, Lee Atwood and Lynn Atwood; one daughter, Ginger Holland; one brother and six sisters. She is survived by two sons, Leonard Atwood, Jr. and wife Cecilia of Hobbs, New Mexico and Robert Atwood and wife Twyla of Arizona; and one sister, DeDe Toler of Nederland, Texas.
