Beloved Mother, Wife, and Friend

*Obituary
Funeral services for Loy Clanton, age 93 of Kyle, Texas and formerly of Seminole, will be held Saturday, March 2, at 10:00 A.M. at Boyer Funeral Home, 410 NW 21st St, Seminole, Texas. Dean Boyer will officiate, with burial to follow in Gaines County Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Loy was born March 10, 1925, in Dawson County to parents Jeff Alvin Dunn and Troy Irene Liles Dunn. She was a long-time member of Seminole First Baptist Church, and prior to moving to Seminole, First Baptist in Lamesa. Loy and husband, Wayne, owned Greaves Pony Farm and later Flight 8 Farms of Seminole and Valley View. She held various jobs including elementary school teacher, assistant to school superintendent, First National Bank, Lamesa, and Lamesa Federal Savings and Loan, Seminole. Some years after the death of husband, John who was a long time farmer in Gaines County, she moved to central Texas to be nearer her children.

Loy loved her friends and was often the chauffeur of what she called “the four OLs” (Old Ladies). She enjoyed traveling and shared many trips and cruises from coast to coast, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and even Europe and Asia with her family. One of her last trips, before her health stopped her traveling, was to China with Ricky and Debbie. She sent a picture of herself standing on the Great Wall to her knee surgeon who had done her fourth knee replacement, telling him, “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you!” She was also passionate about her hobbies which included painting, music, ceramics, sewing, crocheting, model trains and photography. She donated her extensive collection of crochet patterns to one of the assisted living facilities in the Buda area. The family still has some of the costumes and show clothes she made many years ago!

She was preceded in death by husbands James Wayne Greaves and John Elton Clanton, her brother Lee Dunn, and her sister Peggy Bailey and her grandson Joshua Scott Greaves. She is survived by her children Tony Greaves and wife Carol of Buda, Texas, Marcia Jefferis and husband Todd of Georgetown, Texas, Ricky Greaves and wife Debbie of Arlington, Texas and Melody Newsom and husband Tommy of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Lisa Taylor and husband Bryan of Dallas, Texas, Lauren Greaves and husband Martin Bauknight of Dallas, Texas, Carrie Whitbey and husband Jeff of Rockdale, Texas, Kevin Glenn and wife Cheri of Bastrop, Texas, Kimberly Garces and husband Marco of Arlington, Texas, and Cody Greaves and wife Stacy of Arlington, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to the staff of New Haven Assisted Living in Kyle and Journey of Life Hospice for their excellent care for the last four years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of San Marcos, Seminole, Lamesa or Austin, Texas in her memory, or to a charity of your choice.
