Alene George was born January 9, 1916 in Lubbock, Texas to Emma Maude (Burns) and Richard Hubbard McCrummen. Her parents' families were some of the founding families of Lubbock County and Lubbock, where her parents owned a dairy. Today there are two parks in Lubbock named after the Burns and McCrummen families. Alene was a 1933 graduate of Lubbock High School, and went on to graduate with honors from Texas Tech University in 1937. She was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She taught at Graham Consolidated Schools, which was a six-teacher school near Post, Texas. She then taught at Sparenburg, Texas for one year, and moved to Seminole in 1942, where she taught sixth grade until 1947. Following a leave of absence to raise her children, she returned to Seminole schools, teaching fourth grade from 1957 until her retirement in 1976.

Mrs. George was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder. She married Charles M. George on October 6, 1945 in Carlsbad, New Mexico; he preceded her in death in 2007. She is also preceded in death by four brothers, J. Lewis McCrummen, Rowland Haynes McCrummen, Frank White McCrummen, and George Edwin McCrummen; by two sisters, Margaret Cecile Vann and Sally Maude McCrummen; and one granddaughter, Lori Ann Fedo.
