Funeral Mass for Sophia Casares Grimaldo, 71, of Seminole will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 2:00 in the St. James Catholic Church with Father Paul Karieakatt officiating. Interment will follow in the Gaines County Cemetery with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole. She passed away Sunday, March 13 in Seminole.

Sophia was born March 31, 1944 in Panna Maria, to Atilano and Eugenia Casares. Sophia and Matthew Grimaldo were married September 24, 1966 in Lamesa. They owned/operated Seminole Trim Shop since 1971. Sophia was a member of St. James Catholic Church, she was a Guadalupana, member of Cursillitas, Minister of Communion, CCE Teacher and had been employed by SISD for 17 years. Sophia enjoyed time with her family and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Consuelo Hernandez, also two infant brothers.

Sophia is survived by her husband Matthew Grimaldo of Seminole; one son David Grimaldo of Brownwood; four daughters Patricia Alaniz of Andrews, Lucinda Gomez of Seminole, Rosemary Grimaldo of Lubbock and Angelica Garza of Seminole; five brothers Juan, Ramon, Manuel, Valentine and Leeroy; seven sisters Maria Betancourt, Carmen Ontiveros, Elena Jimenez, Sylvia Alvidrez, Maria Antonia Alarcon, Linda Alvarez and Beatrice Aleman; along with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joey Alaniz, Albert Gomez, Felix Garza, Juan Casares, Raymond Casares, Manuel Casares, Leeroy Casares, Joseph Najera, Mike Alaniz and Jay Alaniz.

Funeral services for Matthew “Matt” P. Grimaldo, 77, of Seminole will be conducted Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Gaines County Cemetery with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole. He passed away Monday, December 17, 2108 in Lubbock.

Matt was born April 19, 1941 in Hollister, California to Matthew and Clarita Liscano Grimaldo. Matthew and Sophia Casares were married September 24, 1966 in Lamesa and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2016.

Matt was a Sgt. in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He and Sophia moved to Seminole in 1961. Matt has been the owner of Seminole Trim Shop since 1971, was also employed for over 20 years with Seminole Independent School District and was a member of the St. James Catholic Church where he served as the minister of communion and was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Santo Nombre organizations. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Juan, Ruben and Jesse Grimaldo, and an infant sister.

Matt is survived by a son, David Grimaldo of Steilacoom, Washington; four daughters, Patricia Alaniz of Andrews, Lucinda Gomez of Seminole, Rosemary Grimaldo of Lubbock and Angelica Garza of Seminole; one sister, Maria Lopez of Amarillo; three brothers, Joe of El Paso, Pablo and Andres of Amarillo along with 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
