Texas

August 30, 1920-April 05, 1955

Miller CUNNINGHAM, 34, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Perryton hospital of a gunshot wound in his right temple. His wife had discovered him in dying condition just a short time before.

CUNNINGHAM, a World War II veteran, was in the back seat of his automobile, which was parked near the family home, 217 S. Indiana. Sheriff Ray Phagan said that CUNNINGHAM was shot with a .22 caliber rifle. The gun was found in the car.

The sheriff said there was no apparent reason for the shooting. No note was found.

CUNNINGHAM borrowed the rifle at about 9:15 p.m. Monday from the POUNDS Home and Auto Store where he worked. He did not come home that night, but did arrive early Tuesday morning, according to his wife.

He was born August 30, 1920, in Ochiltree county and was reared near Booker. He had worked for the Pounds Home and Auto Store since 1951.

He was a veteran of World War II and was injured during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium when he received a severe head injury. He was brought home on a hospital ship and was discharged in 1945.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Thursday, at the First Methodist church. Rev. A. B. Cockrell, pastor of the church, and Rev. L. B. Taylor of Booker, will preside.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, a son, Miller, Jr., a daughter Carolyn; his mother, Mrs. Agnes CUNNINGHAM of Booker; a sister, Mrs. Johnny HOCKING of Riverside, Calif.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Antone SLOVACEK of Booker.
