When Thomas Emmett Finch was born on August 14, 1896, in Lamar, Texas, his father, John, was 29 and his mother, Margaretta, was 36. He married Florence Lavada Hardin Finch on November 21, 1915, in his hometown. They had seven children in 13 years. He died on April 13, 1960, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 63, and was buried there.
