Allen Varner, Pioneer Resident of Gause Dies Tuesday, January 5

Allen Varner, 82, a prominent businesswoman, rancher and farmer of the Gause community, died at his home at 8 a.m. Tuesday January 5. Mr. Varner had been in declining health for the past few months.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 7 at the Methodist Church at Gause with Rev. O. C. Boatman, minister of San Antonio, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. F. W. Dibble, pastor of the Gause Methodist Church. Burial will be in the City cemetery in Gause with Hartfield Funeral Home of Hearne in charge of arrangements. His body will remain at his home until the funeral hour.
Mr. Varner was boen February 12, 1871 in Indiana. He was a resident of Gause for over 71 years and a businesswoman, grocery and dry good merchant, rancher and farmer in that community.
Mr. Varner is survived by his widow, Mrs. Allen Varner of Gause; one son, J. I. Varner of Gause and one daughter, Mrs. R. E. Doty of Houston.
Mr. Varner is also survived by one grandchild of Houston.
Pallbearers will be L. H. Rutlick, Lyn Reese, L. C. Cuttingham, Joe Moore, Red Ditto, Terry Moore, Rufus Hafley, Louis Lang, B. J. Kilpatrick, J. D. Peeples, Roger Thomas, Robert Doty and Jim Harris.
