Graveside services for James Edward (J.E.) O’Neal, age 87 of Plano and formerly of Seminole, Texas will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Gaines County Cemetery with John Penner officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mr. O’Neal was born June 28, 1930 in Colorado City, Texas to Ola Mae (Lincecum) and Fred Farrar, then was later adopted by Clyde G. O’Neal. In 1942 when he was 12 years old, he and his parents moved to Dallas, Texas, where he attended Sunset High School and graduated from Crozier Technical High School. Following graduation, James joined the United States Marine Corps and served as firearms instructor at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon assignment in Korea, James was reassigned to the Marine Corp of Engineers, and received several medals including the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

It was in California that James met and married his wife of 44 years, Jane. He worked in the automotive industry for over forty years. When he retired, James and Jane moved to Seminole, Texas and started farming and ranching. He enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, bee keeping, golf, sailing, mechanical repairs and furniture making. James was a consummate thinker and excelled in all his endeavors, hobbies and projects, but by far his greatest joy was the love of his family and grandchildren.

Unique to his life was the fact that he and his brother were born on the same day twelve years apart. It was often said James planned it that way so there would be twice as much cake and ice cream on his birthday.

James O’Neal passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Groom Senior Living in Plano, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jane O’Neal in 1998. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Allen and husband Jack of Sachse, Texas; one brother, Doug O’Neal and wife Janis of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Jessica Roberts, Lindsey Roberts, Colleen Allen, Jennifer Dickey, Jaclyn Allen, and Chase Allen; and six great-grandchildren.
