Ronald Joe Bowers was born in 1934 to Joseph Wilson and Juanita Wilson Bowers of Vernon, Texas. He passed away April 20, 2011 in Bastrop, Texas.

Ronnie was raised in Vernon and graduated from Vernon High School in 1951. Three years later, on August 21, 1954, he married Shelley Ann Bell of Vernon, Texas. In 1957 Ronnie graduated from Midwestern University with a business degree and then joined the United States Army. After serving overseas, Ronnie returned to the states and formed Bowers Oil Company with his father, J.W. Bowers. Ronnie and J.W. owned and operated Bowers Oil Company for 32 years.

While in Vernon, Ronnie was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as Lions Club president from 1976-1977 and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 130 of the First United Methodist Church. Ronnie was also involved with Boys Club basketball and Lions Club baseball.

In 1995, Ronnie and Shelley moved from Vernon to Amarillo, Texas, where Ronnie worked as an investigator for Adult Protective Services. After their time in Amarillo, Ronnie and Shelley lived in Abernathy, Texas, Dalhart, Texas, and Bastrop, Texas, allowing them to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Although he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf, Ronnie's joy in life was seeing his family and friends smile and laugh. He attended all activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in and was affectionately known by his grandsons' friends and many others as "Pap."

Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife, Shelley; children Julia Bowers Ewing and husband Jeff of Dalhart, Texas and Mikel Bowers and wife Sharon of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Davis Stribling and wife Sarah of Bastrop, Texas, Blake Stribling and wife Brittany of San Antonio, Texas, and Greyson Bowers of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandson, Ethan Stribling of Bastrop, Texas.

Services will be held Monday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan funeral home. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice Austin/Christopher House or the American Cancer Society.
