"Peter Kerr was at Gonzales when General Sam Houston evacuated his army..." He was later "...appointed inerpreter to the Texas Army by the general in dealing with the Mexicans after San Jacinto." * He was awarded 320 acres of land for compensation.
He came to Burnet County sometime around the establishment of Ft. Croghan. He later bought property that included the site of the fort and established a town site there called Hamilton. After the county was organized in 1852, he gave the county 10 lots in the town of Hamilton to form the courthouse square.
