Mission - Rodolfo "Rudy" Canales DDS, as born July 12, 1931 in Falfurrias, TX passed away on February 17, 2018, at Doctor's Hospital in Edinburg, Texas. He attended Falfurrias High School and then joined the Air Force in June of 1949 as a Radio Operator with the 86th Fighter Bomber Group in Munich, Germany. After his service to our country he worked 9 months at the U.S. Post Office as a clerk in Houston, Tx. He decided in 1953 to further his education and went to the University of Houston for his Pre-Dental training and was accepted to the University of Texas Dental School of Houston in 1955 where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). He started his Dental Practice in Roma, TX in 1960 where he met the love of his life Elva Saenz-Canales. They moved to Mission, TX in 1962 where he continued his dental career until his retirement in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents Maria Martinez Canales and Adolfo and 2 brothers Jose Ignacio Canales and Tomas Canales.
Rudy and Elva were blessed with 3 children Marlon Eric (Cynthia J) Canales, Dr. Tomas (Raquel R) Canales, and Dr. Layra (Dr. Hermilo Flores) Canales-Flores. Rudy and Elva were also blessed with 10 grandchildren Erica (Raul Garcia) Canales-Garcia, Marla Canales, Mark (Jennifer) Canales, Michael (Christine) Canales, Marlee Canales, Eric Canales, Tomas Canales, Layra Michelle Flores, David Ivan Flores, and Daniel Issac Flores. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren Dominic, Madison, Isabelle, Michael Jr., Jude, and Isabel.isitation will be held today, February 19, 2019 from 3-9 with a 7pm rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
