Mercedes - Gilberto Vela, 91, passed away on February 13, 2019 at his residence in Mercedes, TX. Surviving him are his wife Ester Vela; 4 sons: Gilberto Vela, Jr., Ricardo Vela, Oscar Vela, Benny Cruz; 1 daughter: Diana Vela; 2 brothers: Eleazar Vela, Jose Vela; 2 sisters: Eva Vela and Julia Huerta. Also surviving are 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. On Tuesday, February 19, 2019 a chapel service will be at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes, TX.
