Merle S. Cross, 95, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Darrouzett Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Carter of Follett United Methodist Church officiating, and Masonic rites by Ochiltree Lodge No. 910.

Mr. Cross was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Ivanhoe, Okla., to Ada and Simon Cross. A longtime resident of Darrouzett, he was manager of the Darrouzett Co-op Association and retired as president of First National Bank of Darrouzett.

Mr. Cross had served on the Darrouzett City Commission and the Lipscomb County Historical Committee. He was a member of the Darrouzett Lions Club and had worked with the Boy Scouts.

Mr. Cross was the past master of Darrouzett Masonic Lodge No. 1156 and a member of Ochiltree Lodge No. 910. He also held memberships in the El Paso Scottish Rite Bodies and the Borger York Rite Bodies. He had received his 65-year service pin from the Grand Lodge of Texas. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Amarillo Chapter 787.

Mr. Cross was a member of Darrouzett United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and as a Sunday school teacher. In Amarillo, he was an associate member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday school class.

He was active in the Darrouzett Senior Citizens Association, the Darrouzett Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the American Rose Society.

He married Velma Fisher on Feb. 6, 1936, in Darrouzett.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; three children, Larry L. Cross and wife Dolores of Amarillo, Marilyn Cross Maynard and husband Ken of Canyon and Stephen F. Cross and wife Suellen of Borger; six grandchildren, Barbara and Rick German of Kingwood, Mary and Jon Barton of Wimberley, Wendy and Louis Shaheen II of Granbury, Scott and Jennifer Maynard of Canyon, Michelle and Dan Dear of Amarillo and Mark Cross of Houston; eight great-grandchildren, Cory Bigham of Marble Falls, Breanna Bigham of McAlester, Okla., Branson Thomas and Christopher Barton both of Wimberley, Hudson Dear and Hadley Dear, both of Amarillo, Cadence Maynard of Canyon and Parker Dear of Fort Worth.

The family suggests memorials be to the Pathfinders Sunday school class of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109 or the Legacy Scholarship Program, in care of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St.,Dallas, TX 75219.
