When Edward "Edd" W Phipps was born on July 24, 1894, in Tennessee, his father, James, was 41 and his mother, Annie, was 38. He had two sons with Minnie B Brock between 1915 and 1923. He died on November 6, 1968, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 74, and was buried there.
