When Emmett Harold Smith was born on September 5, 1916, in Greenwood, Texas, his father, Emmett, was 23 and his mother, Mary, was 22. He married Mary Geneva Holcomb on April 18, 1936. They had one child during their marriage. He died on August 14, 1992, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 75.
