When William Jackson Matney was born on March 2, 1886, in Fannin, Texas, his father, William, was 26 and his mother, Anna, was 27. He married Mary Louise Kraft on September 11, 1907, in Clarksville, Texas. They had six children in 20 years. He died on September 4, 1963, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 77, and was buried there.
