When Samuel D. Matney was born on December 19, 1888, in Texas, his father, John, was 26 and his mother, Sarah, was 23. He had four children with Rosa Matney and one child with Mae Lentz. He died on February 17, 1974, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 85, and was buried there.
