When Essie Mae Matney was born on January 19, 1911, in Missouri, her father, William, was 24, and her mother, Mary, was 19. She married Jesse Emil Chapman on December 13, 1929. They had two children during their marriage. She died on October 8, 1978, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 67, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.
