Miss Sue Payne lived in Lipscomb in the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Ester and James L. Wolfe. After James passed on in 1935 and Ester passed away in 1937, Sue continued to live there and kept up the taxes on the home. Records show that Lipscomb County owned the property by 1945. Evidently the land was deeded to the county by the Wolfes/Miss Payne since they had no heirs. The house was used for the poor or needy as a "county home" for a number of years, until it was torn down, in disrepair.
