When Robert Delesley Suggs was born on April 12, 1882, in Milam, Texas, his father, Iaa, was 33 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 32. He married Martha Dora "Mattie" Mathis on July 29, 1903, in his hometown. They had five children in 16 years. He died on August 17, 1959, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 77.

When Martha Dora "Mattie" Mathis was born on March 18, 1885, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, her father, William, was 42, and her mother, Lucinda, was 36. She married Robert Delesley Suggs on July 29, 1903, in Milam, Texas. They had five children in 16 years. She died on April 16, 1970, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 85.
