When John "Johnnie" Andrew Simmons was born on May 7, 1909, in Randlett, Oklahoma, his father, George, was 36 and his mother, Martha, was 30. He married Leola Elizabeth Ervin on September 1, 1934, in Walters, Oklahoma. They had five children during their marriage. He died on June 5, 1989, in Pampa, Texas, at the age of 80.
