Oct 5, 1888 - Col. James W. Drake, age 85, resided with granddaughter Mrs. Carrington. Oldest Free Mason in the Gainesville Lodge. He was one of the surveyors appointed by the U.S. Government to survey the tract of land presented by the government to General Layafette when he visited the U.S. in 1824.
