*Obituary
James (Jim) Lee Adams, 79, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on February 17, 2014.
He was born December 25, 1934, in Carlton Texas to Lawrence Hugh Adams and Edna Melissa Cashon Adams. His parents raised Jim and his sister, Marlene, in Hico, Texas.
On July 2, 1955 he married Mary Anita Chumney. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past year.
Jim attended Tarrant County Junior College (TCJC), Tarleton State University and the University of Texas at Austin. He worked in the Aircraft industry for 15 years at General Dynamics, Chance Vought and Bell Helicopter until they moved, or "retired" to Hamilton in 1972 and bought Hamilton Floral and Nursery. They have been the owners for the past 42 years. Jim may have moved to Hamilton to "retire" but Anita made sure he stayed busy while he thought he was "retired."
Jim had a servant's heart and took great joy in serving whatever community he lived in. When he lived in Arlington he served on the Benevolent Committee at the Dorcas House and served as a Deacon at Randol Mill Church of Christ. The Dorcas House is now known as Hearts and Hands and serves thousands of families a year. He made numerous trips to the Valley to pick fresh oranges and grapefruits for the various Children's homes in the area. After moving to Hamilton he continued serving others on various mission trips with Park Heights Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and helped lead their benevolence committee. For more than 13 years he served as Chairman of United Care. Jim made it his life's mission to make sure no one in Hamilton went hungry or without clothes. His legacy of serving others' lives on as his children and grandchildren seek to serve others in their community.
He was active in the community serving as President of the Central Texas Allied Florist Association, President of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and Hamilton's Lions Club. Jim and Anita were named Outstanding Citizens of the Year in 1982.
Jim, known to his family as Papa, was also a doting father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Family was very important to Papa and he did his best to get to any activity his loved ones were part of. Even when that meant driving for several hours or flying for sixteen.
Jim is survived by his wife Anita and two children; Jimmy C. Adams and his wife Debbie from Hillsboro, Beverly Adams Garner and husband Reggie of Arlington, sister Marlene Latham and husband Garland from Tyler, granddaughter Jaime Adams Isaac and husband Steve from Sydney Australia, grandson Jason Adams and wife Carey from Arlington, grandson Collin Garner and wife Macie from Fort Worth, grandson Garrett Garner and granddaughter Katherine Garner from Arlington, great grandchildren Connor Adams, Addison Adams, Callum Isaac and Austin Isaac along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
