When Walter Herman Obenhaus was born on April 1, 1908, in Vernon, Texas, his father, Otto, was 30 and his mother, Alvena, was 20. He married Elsie Rose Lutz on December 22, 1929. They had three children during their marriage. He died on April 11, 1995, in Wilbarger, Texas, at the age of 87, and was buried in his hometown.
