When Simon Ervin Lawlis was born on July 11, 1900, in Rosebud, Texas, his father, Jacob, was 32 and his mother, Julia, was 28. He married Lillian Bell Dicus on September 3, 1923, in Wilbarger, Texas. They had three children in 12 years. He died on October 18, 1981, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 81, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.
