May 31, 1941 - June 26, 2017

Wife of Lawrence Sherman Robinson
Irene Lydia Garcia Robinson went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2017. She had just celebrated her 76th birthday by fulfilling a life long dream of taking a spiritual pilgrimage to Spain and Portugal. When she returned she was able to celebrate with family and friends. Irene was born in Brownsville, Texas on May 31, 1941 to parents, Roberto Eduardo and Lydia (Arangua) Garcia. She has three children with her first husband, Columbus Harral Roberts, Jr.. In August, 1974 she married her true love, Lawrence Sherman Robinson who also had three kids. They set up roots in Maverick County where together they owned and operated their oil and gas business, Jack Robin Company. They lived in Eagle Pass from 1990 to 2010. There, Irene was a very active member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. Her Christian faith and generosity inspired years of service with The Angel Tree ministries, Casa de Nazareth orphanage, Relay for Life, and she was a co-founder of Candles for Life, a nonprofit organization that assists those afflicted with cancer. Due to her impact in the community, in 2006-2007, she was named “Senora Amiga” by the International Good Neighbor Council. Apart from her volunteer and community efforts and traveling with her late husband, Irene loved to dance with her line dancing group, The Golden Girls.
In their later retirement Irene and Larry moved to Portland before settling in Corpus Christi. The two traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and on many cruise destinations. Irene became an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet, TX. In Corpus Christi, Irene was involved with Hosanna Adult Day Care and activities at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. Irene’s Christian faith gave her an appreciation and zest for life. Her joy came from first her faith and relationship with Christ, second her beloved family, and then the fellowship and camaraderie of her friends in both Eagle Pass and Corpus Christi. Her presence and Christian influence will be missed by many.
Irene is survived by her six children, Laura (Andrew) Tischler, Edward Harral Roberts, Shari (Colin) Brack, Sheila (Wes) Yeager, Lloyd (Suzette) Robinson, Betty Jan Nichols; her sister, Delia Garcia; fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday July 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Father Zenon Konowalek at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Violet on July 3, 2017. The Rosary will begin at 9:00 am with Mass immediately following at 9:30 am. The burial will be held at 11am at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alex Alvarado, Victor M. Alvarado Jr., Travis Roberts, Adam Roberts, Philip Huddleston, and John Nichols.
