Awilda "Boogie" Jergenson, 82, of Amarillo, formerly of Darrouzett, died Sunday Oct. 5, 2008.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Darrouzett United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Carter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker.
Awilda was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Logan, Okla., to Herbert Lincoln and Sarah Phrona Daily Smith. She attended school in Darrouzett and was a graduate of Darrouzett High School.
On March 24, 1946, Boogie married Freddie Jergenson, and they made their home in Darrouzett.
She was very active in the community. She was a member of the Darrouzett VIP's and the Darrouzett United Methodist Church, helped organize and work many Duetsches Fest events, and was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the American Legion Post No. 635 Auxiliary.
Being around people is what brought Boogie the most enjoyment in life. She was always one to give kind words of encouragement, or just a needed hug or kiss. Boogie was a loving wife, mother and sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Rickey, who was killed in action in the Vietnam War at the age of 19; and her parents.
Survivors include a sister, Nadine Herber and husband Harry of Amarillo; eleven nieces and nephews; and numerous other family and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to Rickey Jergenson Memorial Scholarship fund; or a charity of choice with the funeral home accepting the donations.
