When Wilburn Aubrey Rape was born on July 8, 1909, in Pittsburg, Texas, his father, Augustus, was 23 and his mother, Mildred, was 18. He married Nelma Nadine Maxwell (1917–1998) on May 22, 1971, in Vernon, Texas. They had one child during their marriage. He died on October 13, 1985, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 76.
