When Augustus (Gus) Rape was born on August 20, 1885, in Pittsburg, Texas, his father, James, was 38 and his mother, Iona, was 31. He married Mildred Owen Buchanan on November 2, 1908, in Ellis, Texas. They had three children in 14 years. He died on November 10, 1954, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 69, and was buried there.

Mildred Owen Buchanan was born on March 9, 1891, in Trenton, Tennessee. She married Augustus (Gus) Rape on November 2, 1908, in Ellis, Texas. They had three children in 14 years. She died having lived for more than 100 years. She died on November 7, 1994, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 103, and was buried there.
