Funeral services for Roy A. "Hoot" Gibson, 83, of Denver City were held Friday, February 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Billy Everett officiat¬ing. Interment followed in the Denver City Memorial Park with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Roy A. "Hoot" Gibson was born on July 17, 1926 in O'Donnell, Texas. He passed away on February 23, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas. Hoot Gibson was born to Roy W. Gibson and Lucille May.

He attended New Mexico Military Institute as a young man and in 1943 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country aboard a destroyer, the USS Mullany, until the end of World War II.

After World War II, Hoot proudly served in the National Guard and retired from it in 1967. Hoot met and married Mary Ruth Martin in 1947 and they were married on August 25, 1947.

In 1952 they moved to Denver City and he worked at SPS for 35 years until his retirement. He was also a farmer on his father's farm in Gaines County. Hoot was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denver City, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and also of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Throughout his life, he was a baseball coach, FFA supporter, Boy Scout Coach, and a constant support for his children. In his later years, he became actively involved in the Senior Citizens Center and their many programs. Hoot Gibson was a loving, generous, hard-working, faithful, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister June Lasater, and his wife, Mary, May 15, 2006.

Roy A. "Hoot" Gibson is survived by four sons: Michael Dan Gibson and wife Carrie of Coriscana, TX; Rick Gibson and wife Christie of Denver City; Mark Gibson and wife, Kathy of Denver City; and Kris and wife, Sharon of Midland, TX; one daughter, Charlotte Gunter and husband, Russell of Midland, TX; nine grandchildren, Tonia Martindale and husband, Jimmy; Rusty Gunter and wife, Sarah; Tiffany Gunter; Angela Donahue; Danielle Gibson; Leah Esquivel and husband, Pete; Lisa Gibson; Tyler Gibson and Thomas Gibson; 6 great-grand¬children, Kody Martindale, Kaci Martindale, Ty Gibson, Avery Donahue, Caleb Hamner and Curtin Cole; niece, Judy Coats of Seminole and cousin, Shag Garrett of O'Donnell.

Pallbearers are grandsons and grandsons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association, or the First United Methodist Church of Denver City.
