Obituary:
Lillian Mae Peil Miller, 90, of Amarillo, formerly of Follett, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, after a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 A.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett, Texas. Arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton, Tx.
Viewing will be from 1 pm – 9 pm on Sunday, August 25th, and 9am – 9pm Monday, August 26th at the funeral home and 9am – to 10:15 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday prior to the Funeral service.
Lillian was born on April 20, 1929, to Christ and Hilda Peil on a farm outside of Follett, Texas. She grew up in the Follett area and attended school at Fairview County School and Follett Schools. She graduated from Follett High School in 1947.
She married Victor Miller on her 18th birthday, April 20, 1947, after Victor promised her father he would take her to school every day until she graduated from high school. Victor was the love of her life, and together they built a loving, civic-minded family.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, was president of the women’s group, and was chairwoman of the church’s 75th anniversary cookbook project. Lillian also served on numerous committees within the church and helped wherever help was needed. In addition, Lillian was a 4-H leader when her sons were growing up and she supported them both through their sports and academic efforts. She also was awarded Top Conservation Homemaker for Region 1 in 1962 in the annual “Save the Soil and Save Texas” awards program.
Lillian loved to quilt and was a member of the Friendship Quilt Guild in Perryton, Texas, for many years. She was extremely skilled at putting together beautiful patterns and color schemes for her quilts and made many amazing pieces that are treasured by her family. Lillian enjoyed all phases of quilting, embroidery, and counted cross stitch.
Lillian is survived by her sons, Dr. Ron Miller and his wife Melody of Plainview, and Danny Miller and his wife Susan of Amarillo; grandchildren Aleesa Miller Ross of Lubbock; Amy Miller Estrada and husband Jerry Estrada of Lubbock; Justin Miller and wife Jannie of Keller, Texas; and Ryan Miller and wife Jennifer of Amarillo; great grandchildren Cooper, Courtney and Campbell Ross, Nicholas, Mylee and Reese Estrada, and Olive, Gus, Landon and Lilly Miller. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Miller; her parents, Christ and Hilda Peil; her sister Rose Peil Bender; her brother Richard Peil; and her grandson-in-law Brent Ross.
