Byron Lee "TUT" Allen left this world surrounded by his loving family on June 15th 2012.

He was born in Hobbs, N.M. on March 16th 1930 to Oliver and Anabel Allen. They resided there until he was 6 months old, when they moved to Oklahoma. Tut was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fishing was his passion.

Tut served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War which he was a tank commander at the rank of Sargent, defending the 38th parallel in South Korea with the 45th armored tank division. Tut started his career in 1952 upon discharge from proudly serving his country, with Stanolind Oil & Gas, which later became Pan American Petroleum Corp. By the time he retired in 1986 it was then called Amoco Production Company.

On April 16th 1954 he married the love of his life Nelda Harris Allen in Durant, Oklahoma. Upon Nelda's graduation from Southeastern Oklahoma State College, Tut's career path carried them to many different cities and states. Both loved to travel, and visit new places. In 1955 they began their family with the arrival of James Lee Allen. In 1958 they welcomed their second son, Timothy Lyle Allen. Then in 1968 they completed their family with the birth of their third son, Matthew Byron Allen.

Tut enjoyed watching Little League Baseball, all College sports, and anything to do with OU. Both he and Nelda looked forward to traveling to his childhood home, and visiting family and friends in Durant, OK.

Tut was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Olivine Hausey, her husband Hank, and Brother Earl O'Neal Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda of 58 years, sons James of Andrews, TX. Timothy, and wife Melissa of Andrews, TX. and Matthew of Granbury, TX. Grandson, Travis Hunter Allen of Breckenridge, CO. Granddaughter, Risty Lee Allen of Fort Worth, TX. Granddaughter, Mattison Marie Allen of Granbury, TX. Sister Margaret Ann Haddock, and husband Billy of Hendrix, OK. Sister-in-law, Mary Louise Allen of Ardmore, OK. along with many nieces and nephews.

Tut was especially fond of his Grandchildren, having coffee at Cassidy's with the "crew", his 1930 Ford model "A" truck, and his lifetime collection of knives, trinkets, and arrowheads.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 17th at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, TX from 4-6 pm.

The funeral service will also be provided by McNett Funeral Home on Monday, June 18th at 10 am. Burial will follow at Andrews North Cemetery.


The Allen family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, thoughts, prayers, and condolences through this difficult time in our lives. The family requests memorials be made to Compass Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
