Funeral services for Pat Haygood, 70, of Andrews will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with the Rev. John Yeates of the First Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas, and the Rev. Doug Kello of the First Baptist Church in Andrews officiating. Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at McNett Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Andrews North Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. He died Friday, March 7, 2003, at his residence in Andrews.

He was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Mountainaire, N.M. He moved to Kermit in 1948 from Wink. He played in the state finals on the Kermit High School football team in 1950. He graduated from Kermit High School in 1951. He had been the 126 pound golden gloves state boxing champion. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Madison on Aug. 15, 1953, in Kermit. He had worked for TransWestern Pipeline as a field mechanic from 1968-1993.

They moved to Andrews in 1998. He coached Little League Baseball in Kermit and Andrews. The Kermit Little League Baseball field had been named after him as “Haygood Field”. He owned Haygood Sports in Andrews. He was known as “Grand Daddy” by many kids in Kermit and Andrews. He was an avid sports fan, was an artist, loved to fish and collected arrowheads. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Haygood of Andrews; three sons, Sam Haygood and wife Katherine of Amarillo, Joe Haygood and wife Michelle of Andrews and Dan Haygood and wife Hilary of Andrews; mother, Alice Weaver of Austin; sister, Imogene Kitchens of Austin, eight grandchildren, Brady Haygood, Tyler Haygood, Brandon Haygood, Corey Haygood, Lane Haygood, Patrick Haygood, Joe Ryne Haygood and Malia Godfrey; and one great-granddaughter, Leilani Godfrey. Dorothy Haygood, 82, of Andrews passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 in Andrews surrounded by her family.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Johnny Touchstone, Star Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Dorothy was born on May 30, 1935 in Big Spring, Texas to Richard “Dick” Samuel Madison and Lovie Maxine Everett Madison. She was raised in Kermit and graduated from Kermit High School in 1953. She married Patrick “Pat” Leon Haygood on August 15, 1953. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the Kermit ISD for 24 years and several years for the Winkler County Courthouse and County Clerk. She and Pat were very involved in Little League Baseball in Kermit and Andrews. The Kermit Little League Baseball Field is named after her husband as “Haygood Field.” They moved to Andrews in 1998 from Kermit. They had owned and operated Haygood Sports in Andrews. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching her sons and grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed arrowhead hunting, genealogy, yard work, needlework, and her family will remember all the tasty meals she lovingly prepared for them. She was a Baptist and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on March 7, 2003, and her sister, Wynell Patton.

Dorothy is survived by her 3 sons, Sam and Katherine Haygood of North Carolina, Joe and Michelle Haygood of Andrews, and Danny and Hilary Haygood of Andrews, 4 sisters, Joanna Yeates of Midland, Sharon Hare of Abilene, Kathy Garrett of Midland, and Dixie and Barry Randolph of Kermit, 8 grandchildren, Corey and Laurie Finley, Frannie Malia Godfrey, Brandon and Jessi Coony, Brady and Kendall Haygood, Tyler and Meagan Haygood, Lane and Becky Haygood, Patrick and Julia Haygood, and Joe Ryne Haygood and fiancée, Shelby Reynolds, and 5 great grandchildren, Oliver and Matteo Godfrey, Noah Coony, and David and Daniel Haygood.
