R. L. "Dick" Stafford, 78, of Denver City passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in Denver City.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 2 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Dick was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Rockwood, Tx. to Roy and Eula Stafford. He married Lena Mae Suttle on Sept. 17, 1969 in Denver City. Dick served in the Navy. He worked for 33 years before retiring from Shell Oil Company. Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Stafford on May 20, 2004; a brother, Charles Stafford; and a sister, Janie Black. He is survived by a son, Mike Stafford and wife, Athena of Denver City; a daughter, Cindy and husband, Jody Burkes of Denver City; two grandsons, Joey Burkes of Austin and Jeffrey Stafford of Lewisville; a granddaughter, Jennifer Stafford of Washington, DC; two brothers, James Stafford of Bracketville and Bob Stafford of Victoria; and a sister, Frances Shamblin of Decatur, Ark.
