Cpl. Ray M. Bevel, 22, of Andrews was killed in combat, Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq while proudly serving our Country in the United States Army.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 30, 2007 at the James Roberts Civic Center in Andrews.The Rev. Doug Kello, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Weimar, Texas, will be officiating. Public visitation for Cpl. Bevel will take place Saturday, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Graveside services will be held in the Andrews North Cemetery.

Ray was born October 4, 1984 in Breckenridge, Texas. He graduated from Andrews High School in 2003. His favorite class was Metal Shop and competed numerous times at the state level. He enjoyed building trailers and barbeque pits. Ray loved to work with the youth group at First Baptist Church in Andrews, loved going on ski trips with the church, and loved playing golf. Ray married Brooke Hooper on December 10, 2005 in Odessa, Texas. After joining the Army, Ray graduated basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia. Cpl. Bevel served with the 10th Mountain Division, Air I, Charlie Company, Ft. Drum, New York. Cpl. Bevel was preceded in death by grandparents, Graham Bevel and Jess Hobbs. Ray is survived by his wife: Brooke Bevel of Odessa; his parents: Jerry and Lonna Bevel of Andrews; mother: Christy Hobbs Bevel of Lubbock; brothers: Jerry Don Bevel of Odessa, Private Rusty Smith of Fort Wainright, Alaska; sister: Keisha Bevel of Andrews; grandparents: Ruth Willis of Rockwall, Texas, Betty Hobbs of Odessa, Jerry and Susan Hallmark of Lingerville, Texas, great grandmothers: Willie Mae Hallmark of Stephenville, Texas, Dorothy Wiseman of Belmont, Illinois; uncles: David Hobbs, Mike Bevel, Greg Bevel, and Don Hallmark.
