Obituary:
DARROUZETT - Jack Wils Webster, 78, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Darrouzett High School Auditorium with the Rev. Gary McDonald, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker.

Jack was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Boulevard, Calif., to Newton and Elsie Webster. He went to school in California and Arizona before graduating from Mountain Park High School in Oklahoma.

Jack served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1955 as a member of the Early Warning Group stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines. This was the first group of its kind in the Navy.

Mr. Webster then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in social studies from Panhandle A&M College in May 1956 in Goodwell, Okla. Also, in the same year, Jack married Fern Hale in Amarillo.

Mr. Webster began his career in education in 1959 at Briscoe as a teacher, coach and bus driver. Jack and his family moved in 1963 to Hedley, where he added the responsibilities of being a principal to his list of duties.

Mr. Webster earned his master's degree in education in 1968 from West Texas State University and became the superintendent of Darrouzett ISD.

Jack took the job of coordinating special education programs in 1975 for Spearman, Perryton, Booker, Darrouzett, Follett and Waka school districts, a position he held until his retirement in 1990.

Jack was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Darrouzett. Over the years he was active in the community as a youth sports coach, a volunteer firefighter, Lions Club member, American Legion member and he was a member of the Senior Citizens Club.

Jack served several terms as mayor of Darrouzett and also as a member of the Darrouzett ISD school board.

Mr. Webster was preceded in death by his parents, Newton Webster and Elsie Barnhart; a sister, Mozelle Johnson; and two half brothers, Robert and George Mattox.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Fern; three daughters, Carol Barrett and husband Rusty of Hobbs, N.M., Linda Logan and husband Randy of Mesquite and Darlene Hardy and husband Hugh of Weatherford; a son, Mark Webster and wife Laurie of Amarillo; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Gideons International, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 341, Booker, TX 79005.
