DENVER CITY - V.L. 'Sparky' Sparks, 79, of Denver City, a retired foreman for ARCO, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darren Skinner and Shane Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at the Denver City Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ratliff Funeral Home.

He was born in Hope, Ark., and was a resident of Denver City since 1953. He was an Army veteran. He was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Jean Sparks of Denver City; son, Mike Sparks of Odessa; daughter, Stephanie Mowat of McAlester, Okla.; brothers, R.C. Sparks of Denver City and L.W. Sparks of Hobbs, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. www.usgenwebsites.org

DENVER CITY Annetta Jean Sparks, 82, of Denver City, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008, in Lubbock.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the Denver City Memorial Park with the Reverend Steven Brooks officiating, assisted by Shane Sparks.

Services are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Jean was born March 29, 1925, in De Leon, Texas, to Arthur and Rebecca McIver. She married Verbon "V.L. Sparky" Sparks in Hope, Arkansas on January 10, 1946. They moved to Denver City in 1953. Jean spent most of her life as a homemaker, but she also worked for the Denver City ISD for seven years in the cafeteria. She was the 5th and 6th grade Sunday school teacher for many years. Jean attended Denver City Senior Citizens. She was involved in the Cub Scouts and the 4-H. Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sparky, June 10, 2002, four sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by a son, Mike Sparks and wife, Ann, of Odessa, a daughter, Stephanie Mowat and husband, William of McAlester, OK, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, V.L. Sparks Memorial Fund, 210 West 4th, Denver City, Texas 79323. Published in Odessa American on Jan. 8, 2008
