Curtis Nix, 89, of Andrews passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Odessa.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a memorial service at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Means Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 NE Avenue B, in Andrews with Rev. Les Hall, officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial services at the church. Interment will be in the Andrews North Cemetery under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home in Andrews. Please celebrate his life by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.

Curtis was born on May 10, 1929 in Hamilton County, Texas to Layton Walton Nix and Ruby Sellers Nix. He was raised in many different towns as his father worked for the highway department, and he graduated from Fort Stockton in 1948. He attended Tarleton State University for two years, and then moved to Andrews in 1951. He started to work for Amoco in 1951 and retired on July 1, 1986 as a production foreman. After his retirement, he worked as a consultant for Lightfoot Wireline Services in Andrews for 10 years. He married Thelma Parrish Hayes on October 16, 1976 in Andrews, and they enjoyed attending church together, playing golf, and traveling to Lajitas and the Big Bend region, Horseshoe Bay, and the Hill Country. He enjoyed collecting rocks, especially from the Big Bend region. He had served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Andrews, and then as a Trustee at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews. He was an avid golfer and was very proud to shoot his age at 69 for the first time in his life and achieved five holes in one. He was a past member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge and Amoco Annuitant Club; had served one term on the city council for Andrews and was a past president and member of the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma, on November 23, 2010, his parents, brother, Rayford Lee “Bobby” Nix, sister, Shirley Mathis, and grandson, Benjamin Gulley.

Curtis is survived by his son, David Nix and wife, Christi, of Odessa, daughter, Carol Gulley and husband, Bill, of Andrews, 2 step daughters, Linda Hayes of Houston and Hilary Haygood and husband, Danny, of Andrews, 7 grandchildren, Kyle Nix, Katie Sims, Jason Gulley, Heather Richardson, Lane Haygood, Patrick Haygood, and Joe Haygood, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and 2 special nieces, Nicky Jackson and Leslie Elian.
