Wounded in May 1864 at the Spotsylvania Courthouse
Married Sarah Men in 1866 and relocated to North Texas. Moved to Weatherford, Texas in 1868 and became a lawyer. Gained fame as a district attorney in the Warren Wagontrain Massacre trials. Served five terms as US Congressman 1882 - 1903 and two terms as Governor of Texas. Retired and served as a University of Texas regent
