*Obituary for Nuel
Nuel Ida Kathryn (Dee Dee) Johnson Deitz died peacefully on June 21, 2015 at the home of her daughter Barbara Jurik in Anchorage, Alaska. She was 100 years old.

Dee Dee was a long time resident of Denver City, Texas (1968-2000) and faithful member of First Baptist Church. Dee Dee moved to Alaska to be closer to her daughter and son and their families in 2000. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

Born October 26, 1914, in Clarksville, Arkansas, Dee Dee was the eldest of seven children; Nuel, Verlis (Shorty) Audrey, Jerada, Hubert, Juanita, and Ann. At the age of 12, Dee Dee with her family “moved out west” loaded in two wagons pulled by a team of horses where they settled in Monahans, Texas to work in the oilfield. They later settled in Jal, New Mexico where she met her future husband Elmer (Olie) Deitz. They were married 47 years.

The Deitz’s raised their family, Robert, Don and Barbara Ann, at the Skelly Oilfield camp outside Lovington, New Mexico and later moved into the “city”. Nanny was a traditional southern lady… she loved to wear pretty clothes and keep a lovely home and never wore pants to church. Home cooking was easy for our nanny. Whether taking a warm meal to a needy family or preparing Thanksgiving dinner for twenty, her angel biscuits, homemade honey vanilla ice cream and lemon squares are famous family and friend's favorites.

Nanny loved God and her family and was proud to know that her prayers were answered. Her entire family are Christians. Son Robert, children Fr. Christopher Deitz, Paul Deitz and Julie Deitz. Son Don, wife Jennifer, children Cynthia Deitz (son Jesse), Donna Deitz Blevins (children Adam and Donny), and Deidre Deitz Aanonson, husband Marvin (children Grant Lucas, Bart Lucas and Scott Lucas), and daughter, Barbara Ann Deitz Jurik, husband Milo, children Mark Jurik, wife Kristy (children Ryan and Ethan) and Andy Jurik, wife Mindy (children Miranda and Mary). Dee Dee also leaves 7 great great grandchildren (Jackson, Taylor, Taryn, Teegan, Blane, Vivian and soon to be Abram).

Dee Dee was preceded in death by her husband Olie, son Robert, parents Verlis Lee Albert and Vora Johnson, brothers Verlis (Shorty) Johnson and Hubert Johnson, sisters Audrey Parrott, Juanita Melancon, and Ann Stevens.

She is survived by her only living sister, Jerada Bergmann of Bellevue, WA.

Please join the family for funeral services at First Baptist Church, Denver City, Texas on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Denver City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a donation to the First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School fund.
