Temple Daily Telegram (Temple, Tex.), vol. 7, no 309, ed. 1, Friday, 25 September 1914, page 6

Mrs. J. L. Fisher of Stamford, died yesterday at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. B. Hutchison.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hutchison home, corner of Fourth Street and Barton Avenue, at 4 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. H. W. Knickerbocker and Rev. C. W. Peyton in charge of the religious service.
Interment will be in city cemetery with pall bearers as follows: A. J. Jarrell, D. A. Black, J. S. Perry, W. S. Rowland, E. B. Greathouse, P. L. Downs, Sr., A. C. Buchanan, W. E. Willis.
Mrs. Fisher’s maiden name was Miss Julia Sample, and she is survived by eight brothers and sisters, she being the first of the large family of children to cross Death’s river. The Temple survivors are:
Mr. E. W. Sherrill, Mrs. C. B. Hutchison, Miss Cora Sample and James Sample. Residing at Stamford and due to arrive this morning are: J. D. Sample, Walter Sample, Miss Lula Sample and Mrs. I. N. Gillespie.
Mrs. Fisher was 62 years old at the time of her death. She was just entering young womanhood when the family came to Bell County in 1867, and located a few miles west of where Temple now stands. Here she remained until 1889, when she went with her father to Jones County, where the home had been made ever since. Several weeks ago she came to Temple for surgical treatment, but her long-continued ill health had weakened her beyond the power to withstand her maladies and death came as a release from suffering. Her husband, Mr. Fisher, preceded her to the grave a year or more ago.
Many friends, particularly of the early settlers of the county and of the ones who built the young city of Temple, deeply mourn her loss. She was a noble woman, self-sacrificing, always kind and meeting bravely and successfully the duties which fell upon her, as daughter, sister and foster mother to be younger members of the family who were in her charge when the mother passed away. Her life was a benediction and she has gone to a rich reward.
