Clyde Harold Hass, age 91, of Baird, TX, was born to James N. and Ressie Hass on May 4, 1926, in Stith Community in Jones County, TX. He attended schools at Midway and Clyde.
Harold was drafted into the Army on October 16, 1944. He served with the Second Battalion 1st Infantry Regiment 6th Division in the Philippines Islands from 1944 until November 1945, when he was transferred to Korea for the Army of Occupation of that nation. He returned to the United States in July 1946 and was discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant in August 1946.
Harold married Rosa Pauline Jones of Baird on March 19, 1948. The couple lived in Abilene, TX until 1950 when they moved to Baird, where they became permanent residents.
He was employed at Dyess Air Force Base from September 1956 until April 1987, retiring from the position of Deputy Chief of Operations in the Civil Engineering Squadron.
After retirement, Harold, Rosa and their little min. pin. Von Max spent the next ten years in the R.V. going from lake to lake fishing. Harold said, ‟We wore out three pickup trucks, three trailers, and three boats in ten years.” Rosa added, ‟And one wife.” After their stint in fishing, Harold became actively engaged in community affairs. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. Harold served as a member of the Baird City Council for twenty years. He was an active member of the Callahan County Emergency Medical Board and was a member of the Callahan County Nutrition Board until 2017. He was actively engaged in the Meals on Wheels delivery program. In 2003, he was a recipient of the Howard Farmer Citizenship Award for his service to the community.
