Walter Roy Langston, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2013, with his children by his side. A memorial service was held Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Clifton.
Langston was born on June 20, 1925, in Temple, to Roy and Lida Langston. He lived in Temple until he joined the Marines in 1943. After his tour of duty, he received his teacher's certification from Howard Payne University and married Mary Ellen Hardin in 1949. They had two children, Stan, born in 1951, and Priscilla, born in 1954.
He spent most of his years in education, improving athletic programs from Texas Wesleyan College to Queen Salote College in the Tongan Islands, finally retiring to Clifton in 1985.
He was very involved in many aspects of civic and political life; a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Omega; and he enjoyed reading and tinkering in his shop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Langston, in 1996.
Langston is survived by his son, Stan Langston and wife, Rebecca of Fort Worth; daughter, Priscilla Langston Raymond and husband, Max of Hubbard; brother, Bill Langston of Lubbock; grandchildren, Chris Raymond and wife, Amy of College Station, Joshua Langston and wife, Melanie of Durham, NC, Sarah Norris and husband, Mark or Hubbard; Rebekah Logan and husband, Greg of Victoria, Jenise Langston of Fort Worth, and Gabriel Raymond of Waco; and great-grandchildren, Raven Sullins and Rocky Norris.
