JOHN CRAWFORD, AGED PIONEER IS BURIED
NATIVE OF TENNESSEE SUCCUMBS AFTER LONG ILLNESS AT HOME HERE
John Crawford, pioneer resident of Cameron, died at the family residence Wednesday, December 31, 1930 following a long period of illness.
Mr. Crawford was a native of Tennessee and was born on February 11, 1954 and would have been 77 years of age in February of this year. He was reared in Monroe County, Kentucky. He came to Cameron from Kentucky on February 28, 1882. He was married to Miss Mary Susan Turner in Monroe County, Kentucky in 1879 and had been a resident of Cameron for 48 years.
Eight years ago Mr. Crawford lost his left eye in a dynamite explosion in a gravel pit near his home and in the succeeding months lost sight in his right eye and had been bereft of his sight for a number of years. For the past eight months he had been confined to his bed.
A pioneer citizen he had lived thru a stirring period in American history and was one of the early settlers here living nearly a half century in Cameron which he saw grow from a small village to its present size. He never forgot the ways of the pioneer and enjoyed the respect and esteem of his neighbors and all who knew him.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, J. R. Crawford and T. A. Crawford, both of Cameron. Two children are dead. One brother, Pete Crawford, and one sister, Mrs. J. H. McLerran survive together with ten grand children and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 Thursday, January 1, 1931 with Rev. Joel B. Hardigree of the First Christian church preaching the funeral sermon. The Green Bros., undertaking firm was in charge of the funeral services. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery in the family burial plot. The Herald extends sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.
