George Sennett
"Irish Lad"
August 15, 1857-March 16, 1939
Sennett was born in Pennsylvania of Irish immigrant parents, names unknown. He arrived in Lipscomb County around 1898. He worked in the area as a cowhand and ranch worker. He was employed at the Box T Ranch for some 20 years, doing the duties of a cowboy, doing some cooking and some yard work. He was known for his love of life, playing the jew's harp quite well and doing a jig to accompany the music.
Will Rogers was cowboying in the Higgins area at the time and knew "The Irish Lad" well, writing several articles about him in the 30's. Some say that Rogers was the one who gave George the name "Irish Lad". Sennett lived on the Thomas ranch south of Higgins for about 20 years, and passed away there on March 16, 1939.
He is buried in the Higgins Cemetery.
