Rev. Harry Burton Garvin
August 31, 1938 - November 25, 2009

Reverend Harry Burton Garvin, Sr. 71, of Cisco passed away November 25, 2009. Services will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Cisco First Baptist Church with Reverend James Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Romney Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel.
Bro. Harry was born August 31, 1938, in Anson, Texas, to Leon Robert and Lessie Rose (Blackerby) Garvin. He attended public school in Leuders. He attended Cisco Junior College, graduated from Howard Payne College with a BS Degree and earned a MS Degree in Divinity at Southwestern Theological Seminary. He married Doris Evelyn Shott on September 1, 1956 in Leuders. Harry was ordained as a minister in 1957. He and Doris served 25 years in Uganda and one year in Kenya, East Africa with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. For the last 6 1/2 years they served as pastor of Lake Leon Baptist Church in Eastland, TX.
Bro. Harry is survived by his wife, Doris, of Cisco, two sons, Harry Burton (Burt) Garvin, Jr. of Jourdanton, TX, and Kenneth Allen Garvin and wife, Laura, of Phoenix, AZ; four daughters, Tamara Burkman and husband, Bo, of Cisco, Deborah Hinely and husband, Tom, of Conyers, GA, Rebecca Murray of Bentonville, AR, and Angie Michele Wetherholt and husband, Jerry, of Brownwood; four brothers, Fred Garvin and wife, Arleen, of Clyde, Tommy Garvin and wife, Jo Evelyn, of Cisco, Leon Garvin and wife, Sue, of West Virginia, and Rex Garvin and wife, Nan, of McKinney; three sisters, Robbie Cason and husband, Clyde, of Ventura, CA, Rose Krupa and husband, Kirby, of Buffalo Gap and Rebecca Garvin of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carroll Garvin, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Garvin and Isaiah Murray.
