SPEARMAN - Helen Irene Edwards, 91, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church in Gruver with the Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Helen Irene Edwards was born Dec. 12, 1917, in Texas County, Okla., to Henry and Bea Roper. She graduated from Gruver High School in 1937. She married Jess Edwards in 1949 in Cedar Vale, Kan. She was a homemaker.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the all the staff and residents of Hansford Manor in Spearman for their continuous love, care and affection.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Edwards, in 1992; her parents, Henry and Bea Roper; two brothers, Harland Roper and Emory Dee Roper; a sister Harlene Judkins; and a special niece, Rae Karr.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Lee "Hank" Stewart and wife Linda of Burleson and Jack Johnson and wife Julie of Pittsburg, Kan.; a stepdaughter, June Weant of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Flo Barnett of Amarillo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Gruver.
