Funeral service for Onie Baxley, 101, of Slaton will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Englunds Chapel with Tommy Hicks of Southside Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
Onie passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011. She was born June 19, 1909 in Goree, TX. She was the youngest of 12 children born to Jarrett and Sytha Proffitt and the last surviving sibling. She married Joe Baxley on April 25, 1926 in Goree, TX. Joe preceded her in death in 1985. Onie lived in Modesto, CA from 1946 until 1992 when she moved to Slaton. Onie was a member of the Southside Church of Christ.
Her survivors include a daughter, Geneva Moates and husband, C. D. of Slaton; sons, Charles Baxley and wife, Glenda of Yuma, AZ and Jerry Baxley and wife, Karel of Union City, CA. Onie is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, David Baxley and daughter, June McDougle.
